PESHAWAR: Six personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC) were martyred and as many others were wounded when terrorists attacked a security post in Hassan Khel, a remote town of the provincial capital Peshawar, on Tuesday.
Officials said the militants launched the attack at midnight, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire. Reinforcements from Kohat and Peshawar, including security forces and police personnel, were dispatched to the area immediately after reports of the attack were received.
“Six paramilitary soldiers of the FC were martyred when a number of terrorists attacked a post in a remote area in Hassan Khel,” Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed told The News.
Security sources claimed that several terrorists were killed or injured during the ensuing firefight, although no independent confirmation was immediately available.
The personnel martyred in the attack were identified as Naik Aamir, Lance Naik Riaz, Lance Naik Yousaf, Sepoy Riaz, Sepoy Ajmee and Sepoy Ehsan, while the injured were named as Sepoy Gohar, Sepoy Shoaib, Sepoy Khalid, Sepoy Ayaz, Havaldar Nooraz and Sepoy Anar-ul-Haq.
Officials said that seven to eight personnel reportedly went missing following the attack. A large-scale search operation had been launched in the area to locate and recover the missing personnel.
Meanwhile, the banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack through a statement attributed to its FR Peshawar chapter. The claims could not be independently verified.
