TAKHTBHAI: A murder accused was shot dead inside the judicial compound at the Takhtbhai Tehsil Complex on Tuesday when an armed man allegedly opened fire to avenge the killing of his brother.
The incident triggered panic and fear among the people on the court premises. However, the attacker later surrendered himself along with the weapon to the police personnel present at the scene.
According to police sources, Shergarh Police had brought 38-year-old murder accused Amjad, a resident of Shergarh, to the court of a judicial magistrate for a scheduled hearing. While he was in police custody, Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Dosehra, Charsadda, allegedly opened fire on him with a pistol, killing him on the spot.
The Rescue 1122 medical personnel shifted the body of the deceased to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital.Soon after the incident, Superintendent of Police (SP), Saddar Circle, Roshanzada Khan, deputy Superintendent of Police, (Security) Umarad Ali, DSP Takhtbhai Shamsur Rehman, Station House Officer, Takhtbhai, Manzoor Khan and SHO Shergarh Iqbal Khan rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.
The police sources said that Amjad had been brought to court in handcuffs. The alleged attacker, Abdul Jabbar, reportedly told authorities that he had avenged the murder of his brother.The authorities have launched an inquiry into the security lapse and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised serious concerns about security arrangements at the court complex. Members of the legal fraternity and local residents expressed deep concern over the killing, questioning how an armed man managed to enter the judicial premises and carry out the attack despite the presence of security measures.
