Personnel of the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of police arrested six alleged operatives of extortion gangs during joint operations in the Garden, PIB Colony and New Karachi areas.

A Rangers spokesperson identified the suspects as Muhammad Khan alias Muhammad Jan, Ali Muhammad, Bilawal alias Bilal Lasi, Abdul Sami, Ahmed Raza alias AD, and Zain Ali. Weapons were also recovered from their possession.

According to the spokesperson, the suspects are associated with the Jamil Changa gang and were allegedly involved in collecting extortion money from under-construction buildings and wedding halls before transferring it to gang leader Jamil Changa, who is reportedly residing abroad.

The spokesperson said Abdul Sami is the son of notorious criminal Bashir alias Mama, who died in a road accident. Sami allegedly played a key role in activating and operating the extortion network and was involved in demanding extortion from businessmen and factory owners in PIB Colony.

Ahmed Raza alias AD was identified as an operative of the Samad Kathiawadi gang. He allegedly provided contact numbers and information about factories, catering centres and other businesses in New Karachi to the gang’s leadership. He is also accused of arranging firing attacks on victims through gang members to create fear and pressure when extortion demands were not met.

Zain Ali, who allegedly belongs to the Bilal Pappu gang, is accused of extorting money from scrap warehouses in Jehanabad and Sher Shah. He is also alleged to be involved in drug trafficking.
