LAHORE:Punjab National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested four suspects from Lahore and Faisalabad during an ongoing crackdown on online harassment, blackmailing, character assassination and the dissemination of objectionable content targeting women.
According to spokesperson, the NCCIA Lahore arrested two suspects in separate cases.Nadeem Ahmad was arrested for allegedly sharing defamatory, obscene and offensive content through social media and other digital platforms. In another operation, Ahsan Khan of Kasur, was arrested for allegedly sharing objectionable content against women through TikTok and TikTok Live.
Meanwhile, the NCCIA Faisalabad arrested two suspects in separate cases.In the first case, suspect Zulfiqar was arrested for allegedly sharing a woman's private and objectionable photographs and videos through WhatsApp.
Forensic evidence also revealed instances of harassment and threats.In the second case, M Rehan was arrested on charges of gaining a woman's trust through deception, obtaining her private information and subsequently blackmailing her.He allegedly extorted Rs1.5 million from the victim and shared objectionable content with her relatives through a fake Facebook account.
Mobile phones, social media accounts and digital evidence were recovered while further investigation is underway, added spokesperson. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab NCCIA Director M Ali Waseem said that crimes such as harassment, blackmailing and character assassination of women would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
