PESHAWAR: Traders attached with the jewellery and gems sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday asked the senators to approve their proposal in the current budget to protect them against ‘unjust actions’ of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

During a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, Sarafa Zargaran Gems and Jewellery Traders and Exporters Association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, president Amin Hussain Babar expressed resentment over what he termed as unjustified raids being conducted by the FBR.

The association’s general secretary Fayyaz Muhammad Durrani and other office-bearers were also present. Babar said the FBR was forcing them to consider shifting their capital abroad despite the fact that they were paying taxes.

He said the FBR had ‘failed’ to achieve its revenue targets and was now taking out its frustration on the traders of Peshawar by subjecting them to harassment. He demanded that the federal government take notice of this situation, saying that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had suffered from terrorism and business activity in the province had come to a standstill.
