LAHORE:Retail prices of wheat flour and related products have increased in the provincial metropolis, according to the Lahore Flour Dealers Association.
The price of a 15k flour bag has gone up by Rs100, from Rs1,700 to Rs1,800. The price of an 80k fine flour bag has increased by Rs500, from Rs10,000 to Rs 10,500. The price of a 50k semolina bag has also risen by Rs500, from Rs 6,000 to Rs 6,500.
Haji M Yousuf, President of the Lahore Flour Dealers Association, confirmed the new rates at the retail level. The increase translates to a rise of Rs6.67 per kilogram for flour, Rs 6.25 per kilogram for fine flour, and Rs 10 per kilogram for semolina.
The price hike comes at a time when the flour milling industry is facing supply concerns following the recent government’s decision to freeze private wheat stocks declared on the official portal.
While flour mills remain eligible to obtain fresh wheat permits from District Food Controller offices, the restriction on declared stocks has reduced immediate market availability. Market observers note that the reduced supply of wheat in the open market is adding upward pressure on flour prices. It is indicated that further changes in rates will depend on wheat availability in the open market.
