ISLAMABAD: The Sub-Committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday sought details of an inquiry into an alleged fraudulent payment of Rs80 million as bonuses by Karachi Dock Labour Board (KDLB).
The committee questioned why inquiry report had not been shared and whether any officials involved had been held accountable.
The PAC Sub-Committee met under the chairmanship of its convener, Moin Ameer Pirzada, to examine audit objections related to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs covering financial years 2011-12 to 2022-23.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed an audit objection concerning alleged bogus payment of Rs80 million in bonuses by the KDLB.
Officials from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs informed the committee both an inquiry and a fact-finding investigation had already been conducted into the matter. Expressing concern over the handling of the case, the convener asked why the inquiry report had not been submitted to the committee and requested details of proceedings of Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC).
He also asked whether responsibility had been fixed on any officials and what actions the ministry had taken following the inquiry. The committee directed the audit objection be settled after relevant records are verified by audit authorities.
The meeting also reviewed an audit objection regarding encroachment on land owned by the Port Qasim Authority. Officials informed the committee the matter is currently under litigation and that the authority is actively pursuing the case in court.
