ISLAMABAD: Recognising the need to enhance judicial productivity and accelerate disposal of pending cases, judges of the Supreme Court (SC) have voluntarily agreed to maximise sitting period at the principal seat in Islamabad during summer vacations.

For timely disposal of cases, the SC has announced a structured summer vacation schedule for 2026 aimed at maximising the court’s institutional capacity and strengthening judicial efficiency.

The judges of SC, at the request of Chief Justice of Pakistan and after mutual consultation, have voluntarily agreed to maximise the sitting period at the principal seat during summer vacations. At the same time, in a departure from the past practice, they have agreed to reduce sitting period, if any, to be availed by them at branch registries. According to a press release issued by the Public Relations Department, the period of vacations actually availed (four weeks) is to remain in line with previous years.

“This arrangement is intended to ensure greater judicial availability during summer recess and to facilitate uninterrupted hearing and disposal of cases,” it said.

It stated it reflects collective commitment of the Supreme Court to optimise its institutional resources, improve court performance and strengthen access to timely and effective justice.
