KARACHI: Pakistan’s shooters messed up the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Germany as Rabia Kabir and M Uzman have been penalized and disqualified, respectively, for violating rules while Gulfam Joseph and Kishmala Talat did not play their mixed team event due to an ‘unfortunate’ incident.
According to details, M Uzman was disqualified as per ISSF Rule 6.7.9.1.a (post competition check failure – stiffness) in the qualification round of the individual category of 10m Air Rilfe event. The said rule allows Equipment Control Juries for post-competition checks on athletes’ shooting equipment (jacket and trouser stiffness to ensure they do not exceed allowed flexibility limits, which would otherwise provide an unfair physical advantage).
Similarly, Rabia Kabir committed the violation of ISSF Rule A 10 and B 10 in the qualification round of the individual category of 25m Pistol event for women. These rules outline penalties for loading too many cartridges and firing excess shots.
According to the rule, only one magazine may be loaded with a maximum of five cartridges upon the “LOAD” command and loading more than five cartridges constitutes a rule violation in all 25m Training or Qualification events while during the finals athletes load two (2) magazines.
Similarly, the ISSF Rule 8.8.2.1 applies when an athlete fires more match shots on a target than specified (e.g., more than 5 shots at a series), the highest value hit(s) will be disregarded from the score of that target. Furthermore, two (2) points are deducted from the athlete’s score for the first series/target.
When contacted, Javaid Shamshad Lodhi, an official of National Rifle Association of Pakistan, said the disqualification of M Uzman was wrong as his jacket was cleared one day before his event but he was disqualified the next day after his competition.
“I wrote to the International Shooting Sports Federation about this mishap and they acknowledged that Rizwan was disqualified on wrong pretext and they ensured that such incidents would not happen in the future,” said Javaid.
To a question about missing the mixed team event by Gulfam and Kishmala, Javaid said something ‘unfortunate’ happened there and he would not disclose it at this moment while the incident is also beyond the scope of NRAP.
