Over 142,000 tonnes of offal and waste disposed of in past three days: Wahab

Under the supervision of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Eidul Azha cleanliness operation carried out by the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board continued for the third consecutive day. More than 142,000 tonnes of animal waste and garbage were shifted to landfill sites from across the city over the past three days.

A total of 64,122 tonnes of offal and 78,694 tonnes of garbage and animal waste were collected from different areas of the city and transported to landfill sites established at Jam Chakro, Gond Pass, and Sharafi Goth. Complaints received on the helpline 1128 are also being resolved promptly.

Wahab visited various districts and towns of the city during all three days of Eidul Azha to review the cleanliness operation. On the first day, he visited Burnes Road, Glass Tower Clifton, and several areas of Lyari, including Khadda Market, Musa Lane, Baghdadi, Chakiwara, and Aath Chowk. He also inspected the camp established outside the Town Municipal Corporation Lyari office.

Later, the mayor visited Jinnah Town where Town Chairman Rizwan Abdul Samie briefed him about the situation in the area. The mayor was informed that 9,000 tonnes of offal and more than 11,000 tonnes of garbage were collected on the first day of Eidul Azha.

On the second day of the Eid, the mayor visited Keamari, Baldia Town, Mominabad, and Orangi Town, where he inspected complaint centers and collection points of the Solid Waste Management Board. He stated that the staff of board was carrying out the operation effectively across the city, while complaint cells were being continuously monitored to ensure the immediate resolution of public complaints.

During his visit to the Solid Waste Collection Camp established in Baldia Town, officials gave the mayor Karachi a briefing. The mayor said that although complaints had been received from a few locations, teams were continuously present on the ground and working to resolve issues immediately. He also directed strict action against those dumping animal waste on roads and open spaces.

Later, the mayor visited the Hazara Collection Point in Mominabad and the Aziz Millat Camp in Orangi Town, District West. He expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and directed officials to further accelerate and strengthen the operation.

He said that due to the effective local government system in the city, elected representatives and municipal leadership were actively playing their role in their respective areas. On the third day of Eidul Azha, Wahab, along with the managing director of the SSWMB, continued monitoring the citywide cleanliness operation. He said that this year the staff had performed exceptionally well and that the overall situation in the city remained completely under control.

He further said that offal was being collected and disposed of in a timely manner from all areas, while lime sprinkling and rose water spraying were also being carried out on roads after the cleanup operation to ensure a clean and hygienic environment for citizens.
