LAHORE: Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Fazlur Rehman chaired a high-level meeting at Punjab Stadium on Monday to review the progress, fund utilisation and construction quality of ongoing sports development schemes across the province. Officials were given firm instructions to accelerate slow-moving projects while maintaining strict standards for materials and workmanship.
The meeting examined the pace of construction and the financial status of multiple schemes, with Secretary Fazlur Rehman directing responsible officers to complete 15 slow-moving sports projects within the prescribed timeframes. “There will be no compromise on the quality of material in the construction of sports complexes,” he said, underlining that speed must not come at the expense of durability or safety.
Present at the session were Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi, Additional Secretary Sports Shabbir Hussain Cheema, Director Youth Affairs M. Fahad, and officers from the Project Management Unit (PMU). Officials provided detailed updates on work progress and fund utilisation, with the Secretary noting that 77 percent of allocated funds for development schemes have already been spent.
Officials were instructed to tighten monitoring mechanisms, ensure timely procurement of approved materials and submit weekly progress reports to the Secretary’s office. The meeting also discussed coordination between district administrations, contractors and the PMU to remove bottlenecks and prevent further delays.
