On Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi’s directives, deputy commissioners took action in their respective districts against the cattle markets set up without the city administration’s permission. Several people were arrested and FIRs registered against them.
District Central DC Taha Saleem removed the cattle market set up at the Piyala Hotel Market, with action being taken against those responsible. Staff has been deployed to prevent the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals there again and to remove traffic obstructions.
According to Saleem, the market had been removed twice before. After the market’s removal again, traffic movement on various roads has been restored. He said markets were also removed from PSO Petrol Pump near Saba Cinema, Essa Nagri Market and Sango Lane.
District Korangi DC Masood Bhutto removed markets from Makhdum Society, A-3, Sub-Division Korangi, Korangi No. 5, near the bridge, Nasir Jump, and two cattle markets at 16000 Road, Chakra Goth, Korangi, Punjab Ground, Shah Faisal Colony, and Rehta Plot, Shah Faisal.
According to District Keamari DC Amir Fazal Owaisi, an illegal cattle market was removed from the Mauripur Truck Stand, where it had been set up over a large area and was causing traffic obstruction for Hawkesbay.
Naqvi said that sanitation work is being affected due to illegal markets, and residents are facing difficulties due to traffic congestion. He directed the DCs to continue taking action against illegal markets with police assistance.
