A gang war commander was killed as the Karachi police conducted a major operation in the Old Golimar area in coordination with a federal intelligence agency.
According to police officials, an intense exchange of fire took place between gang war suspects and the police party during the raid.
As a result of the encounter, a most-wanted gang war commander identified as Mehraj was killed. Police recovered a hand grenade, weapons and ammunition from the possession of the deceased suspect.
Initial investigations suggested that the suspect was involved in gang war activities and had been operating a narcotics distribution network in Old Golimar and its adjoining areas. After the encounter, additional police force was called to the area, and a search operation was initiated against facilitators and operatives linked to the gang and drug network.
The body of the deceased suspect was shifted to a hospital for completion of legal formalities.
