Prime accused in Rs1.4bn housing scam arrested in UAE

LAHORE: The prime accused in a multi-billion-rupee housing scam has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following an international manhunt coordinated through Interpol and Pakistani authorities under an expanded anti-corru the UAE Ministry of Justice.

The arrest marks a major development in the scandal, in which hundreds of citizens were defrauded of more than Rs1.4 billion through fake plot sales, fraudulent promises and illegal housing operations.

NAB Lahore had earlier stated that at least 295 affectees lost their life savings in the alleged scam. Two company directors had already been arrested.

The arrest comes amid intensified efforts by NAB Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed to strengthen international cooperation for the repatriation of economic offenders and fugitives involved in high-profile corruption cases.
