Pak-China ties to grow even stronger in next 75 years, commits NA

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Wednesday reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the all-weather strategic partnership between Pakistan and China and continued support to further deepen and broaden the bilateral relations across all spheres of cooperation.

The House passed a resolution, extending its warmest felicitations to the Chinese government and the nation on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Pak-China diplomatic ties.

Moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, the resolution expressed confidence that this bond of friendship shall continue to flourish with ever greater vigour in the decades to come.

Expressing its strong support for China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, the House affirmed its legislative commitment to facilitating the full and timely realisation of CPEC projects for the benefit of the people of Pakistan.

The resolution reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and legislative cooperation between the National Assembly and National People’s Congress of China, describing it as an indispensable pillar of the broader bilateral relationship.

The House expressed its firm resolve that the next 75 years shall witness an even stronger, more dynamic and mutually beneficial relationship, grounded in the shared aspirations of the two peoples for peace, development and prosperity.

Meanwhile, a Chinese delegation led by Vice Chairman of National People’s Congress Cai Dafeng witnessed the House proceedings. National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq warmly welcomed the delegates amidst the thumping of desks by the treasury and opposition benches. The speaker said the visit of Chinese parliamentary delegation coincided with the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of Pak-China diplomatic relations. He described Cai Dafeng as a renowned educationist known for his contributions in the education and public service sectors.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said Pakistan’s friendship with China always stood as an example to the world, emphasising that it was built on trust, steadfast support and full respect for each other’s sovereignty and core interests.

Referring to a video clip naming him by a female drug supplier, former prime minister and PPP lawmaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf called for legislation and mechanism to define limits for social media platforms and prevent the spread of baseless allegations. He urged lawmakers across the party lines to jointly develop a legal and institutional framework to ensure punishment for the guilty while protecting innocent individuals from character assassination and damage to the reputation caused by fake news and irresponsible reporting.
