LAHORE: Senior journalist and intellectual Altaf Hassan Qureshi passed away in Lahore at the age of 94.
His funeral prayers will be offered today (Sunday) at 1:30pm after Zuhr prayers at Jamia Ashrafia, Ferozepur Road, Lahore. Altaf Hassan Qureshi is survived by five sons and four daughters.
He was the author of numerous books and served as editor-in-chief of monthly ‘Urdu Digest’.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed grief over the passing away of Altaf Hassan Qureshi, a renowned journalist and founder of ‘Urdu Digest’.
Prime Minister offered condolence and prayed for patience and strength for his family to bear this loss.
“The sad demise of Altaf Hassan Qureshi has created a void in the field of journalism that may never truly be filled”, Prime Minister said. “The invaluable services of Altaf Hassan Qureshi to journalism will be remembered forever”, Prime Minister added. All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has expressed its profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of distinguished editor, intellectual, and veteran journalist Altaf Hassan Qureshi.
Senator Sarmad Ali, President APNS, and Mohammad Athar Kazi, Secretary General APNS, in a joint statement, paid rich tribute to the late Qureshi and described him as one of most respected and influential figures in Urdu journalism. They said his remarkable contributions to journalism and intellectual discourse would be remembered for years. The APNS office-bearers noted through Urdu Digest, Altaf Hassan Qureshi played a pioneering role in promoting serious journalism, national thought, and literary values in Pakistan. His editorial vision, integrity, and commitment to responsible journalism earned him immense respect across media fraternity and among readers throughout the country. They further said the passing away of Qureshi is an irreparable loss to Pakistan’s journalistic and literary community. They extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty Allah may grant the departed soul eternal peace and bestow patience and strength upon the family members to bear this immense loss.
