KARACHI: The 7th Death anniversary of Pakistan’s renowned painter and a distinguished figure in fine arts, Jamil Naqsh, is being observed on Saturday, May 16, with deep respect and reverence. Jamil Naqsh possessed exceptional natural talent and, through his unique vision, creative expression, and high artistic skill, earned a distinguished place in the world of painting. Born in the Indian city of Kairana, he migrated to Lahore after the creation of Pakistan, where he received formal training in fine arts from the Mayo School of Arts. He gained international recognition for his distinctive style and unique artwork. His paintings, especially those featuring women and pigeons, received widespread appreciation globally and became the hallmark of his artistic identity. His works were not only admired in Pakistan but also in the United Kingdom and other countries, while several of his masterpieces remain part of renowned museums and private collections around the world. His family members are currently maintaining a museum established in the Defence area of Karachi, where his paintings, personal belongings, and rare artworks are preserved. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of art, the Government of Pakistan awarded him the Tamgha-e-Husn-e-Karkardagi (Pride of Performance) and Sitara-e-Imtiaz. Jamil Naqsh remains one of the most influential and celebrated artists in Pakistan’s art history, and his work continues to inspire new generations of artists.
