Water shortage has become one of the foremost problems confronting Pakistan today. Numerous places in Pakistan, ranging from urban to rural settlements, are suffering because of the scarcity of clean water. Due to global warming, the growing population and poor management of water resources, there are fears that this problem will aggravate further. However, a major portion of water is being wasted due to poor infrastructure, inefficient irrigation channels and wasteful practices. Moreover, owing to climate change, there has been a considerable decrease in the rainfall pattern in several areas. Therefore, this problem needs to be handled immediately before it leads to a disaster. The government should ensure that investments are made in efficient water storage facilities, leaking pipelines are repaired and awareness programmes are launched about the importance of saving water.
