ISLAMABAD: Leader of the in the National Assembly Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Friday gave the government a deadline until Monday to allow meetings with Imran Khan and his medical treatment at a hospital of his choice, while Federal Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that efforts were being made to arrange the opposition leader’s meeting with the prime minister to resolve issues.
The opposition leader threatened that the opposition would not allow the functioning of the House if their demands were not met by Monday.
He said if there was no change in the government’s behaviour within these three days, then it would be responsible if any pandemonium occurred during proceedings and the House did not function.
He said they just wanted the government to convey the exact time as to when it would arrange Imran Khan’s meetings with family members and party leaders, and when he would be shifted to a hospital of his choice.
“We also want to tell you that whatever ‘Pincky Mincky’ exercise is going on in the country is a conspiracy to twist the government’s arms,” he said.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Chaudhry, in response, said that they wanted to arrange a meeting between the prime minister and the opposition to resolve all the issues between the two sides. “We wanted a meeting between the two leaders in the near past and desire so in these days to address issues and for better coordination,” he said.
He said that there could be an improvement in relations and coordination after the proposed meeting. “There are issues which can be resolved and should be resolved with better coordination,” he said.
He said the opposition should appreciate the government for taking Imran Khan to hospital whenever there is any emergency. “Opposition alleges us for taking Imran to hospital at night time, but we take him to hospital whenever there is any emergency,” he said.
Chaudhry said that the National Assembly could not give assurance regarding Imran Khan’s meetings and his medical treatment. “These are not political issues for which the House should give any assurance,” he said. He said that the opposition’s concerns regarding Imran Khan relate to law, the jail manual and to some extent better coordination between the government and the opposition.
Former Speaker Asad Qaisar said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was not making unjustified demands and they only wanted protection of the basic human rights of party founder Imran Khan, including his access to proper medical treatment.
He regretted that the government was also not showing respect for the court’s orders regarding his meetings with family and party leaders as per the jail manual. “We, the PTI members, are sitting in this House because of Imran Khan, and we demand his meetings with family members and party leaders and access to proper medical treatment,” he said.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, while taking the floor, said his party went to the Supreme Court 15 times and moved the high court on 24 occasions but to no avail, and neither the party leaders nor family members have been able to meet Imran Khan since October 2025. “There has been no implementation of court’s orders, law and SoPs as agreed with the government,” he said.
Barrister Gohar said the PTI founder required immediate checkup and treatment for his eye. He also said they submitted a bail application in January 2025, but no action had been taken despite the passage of the mandatory 60 days.
He also demanded immediate restoration of electricity in Buner, Swabi, and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province due to problems in transmission lines.
