ISLAMABAD: The rate of divorce in the federal capital has increased alarmingly, with family courts witnessing a rapid rise in the number of cases.

According to sources, an average of 38 divorce and maintenance-related cases are being filed during every hour of court proceedings. Since January 1 this year, more than 45,000 divorce and maintenance cases have been registered.

Sources said that over 9,000 new cases are being filed every month in the federal capital, while more than 300 family-related cases are being registered daily in Islamabad. The number of family cases reportedly reached 85,000 in 2023, increased to 91,000 in 2024, and exceeded 100,000 in 2025.

Sources revealed that more than 30 court marriages are taking place daily in Islamabad. During the past four years, 38 cases were reported in which women sought dissolution of marriage within one to three months after marriage.

Most cases related to dissolution of marriage and maintenance are reportedly being filed by couples who entered into marriages by personal choice. Lawyers say the growing trend of divorce and marital disputes is being driven by factors including drug abuse and unemployment.
