QUETTA: The Vice Chancellor of the University of Gwadar, Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir, along with Pro Vice Chancellor Syed Manzoor Ahmed, went missing while travelling from Gwadar to Quetta along with a staff officer and driver, officials said on Thursday. Officials, while confirming their disappearance, said that Dr Sabir and Ahmed were coming from the port city of Gwadar in their car along with the driver and another employee of the university, but they have not reached Quetta so far.
An aide of the provincial Home Department said they were in contact with the people concerned, but after reaching the Mastung area, their cell phones went silent.
“All efforts are underway to trace the vice chancellor, pro vice chancellor and the two other people travelling with them,” Babar Yousafzai, an aide of the Home Department, said, adding that they had not been traced so far. “Their mobile phones are switched off,” Yousafzai said.
Police officials in Mastung said their kidnapping could not be ruled out.A senior police official said communication with the Gwadar University officials was disconnected on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway in the KhadKocha area of Mastung district.
“Security forces and the district administration are jointly making efforts to trace the vice chancellor, pro vice chancellor and the two other people in the area. A search operation is underway,” officials said.
The disappearance of the Gwadar University officials took place some 80 kms from Quetta on the Quetta-Karachi highway.
