IHC accepts plea for early hearing of convicted PTI leader

ISLAMABAD: A division bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday directed the early fixing of an appeal filed by convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdul Latif Chitrali against his sentence in cases related to May 9.

The bench comprising Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Muhammad Asif heard the miscellaneous application seeking an early hearing of the appeal.

The petitioners counsel Babar Awan appeared before the court.

Justice Soomro remarked that the application for early hearing had been approved and that a date would be fixed.

Babar Awan informed the court that he would not take much time and that decisions on the appeals of other accused in the case had already been made. He requested that the appeal be heard by next week.

Justice Soomro stated that a date would be given and that the appeal would be heard. The court issued directions on the application for early hearing and adjourned further proceedings.

Chitrali was convicted in cases related to the May 9, protests and has challenged his sentence before the high court.
