KARACHI: Pakistan’s Ayesha Zafar created history in women’s cricket during the May 12 match against Zimbabwe when she scored the fastest century in Pakistan women’s T20I history. Many cricket experts were surprised by her remarkable performance, as she had never scored a half-century in her career before. At the same time, everyone praised and congratulated her on her extraordinary innings and hoped she would continue her fine form in the upcoming matches, especially in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Speaking at the post-match press conference after Pakistan’s 153-run victory over Zimbabwe at the National Stadium, Ayesha Zafar said the Pakistan women’s cricket team would aim to continue its successful run in the upcoming series against Ireland and West Indies, as well as in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Ayesha said she had worked hard on improving her aggressive batting style according to the plans set by the team management, and the results were now visible as the team was performing well in all departments.

She further said that all members of the Pakistan women’s cricket team desperately wanted a Pakistan Super League for women cricketers, adding that such a tournament would provide valuable experience, exposure, and help polish their skills.

Ayesha scored a century off just 47 balls, smashing 15 fours and two sixes. She also became the fastest Pakistani batter to score a century in Women’s T20 Internationals. Ayesha made her T20I debut in 2015. In more than a decade of international cricket, she had never scored a half-century. It was only in 2024 that she crossed the 40-run mark for the first time. Now, ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Ayesha scripted history by scoring her maiden T20I century. She also became only the second Pakistan batter to score a century in women’s T20Is.

Notably, Pakistan had never crossed the 200-run mark in women’s T20Is before this match. Their previous highest total was 181/4 against South Africa in 2024. Pakistan’s total is also now the highest T20I score by any Pakistan team, men’s or women’s. In men’s cricket, Pakistan’s highest T20I score is 232/6 against England in 2021. In addition, it is the highest total ever recorded against Zimbabwe in women’s T20Is. The previous record was New Zealand’s 202/1 earlier this year.
