KARACHI: Engro Vopak Terminal Limited (EVTL) and Engro Elengy Terminal Limited (EETL) hosted an industry event in Karachi, bringing together stakeholders from Pakistan’s maritime and terminal ecosystem to highlight the importance of terminal infrastructure in supporting energy security and economic activity.

The event was attended by Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Chairperson of the Port Qasim Authority Rear Admiral (r) Syed Moazzam Ilyas, along with industry stakeholders.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said Pakistan’s maritime progress is underpinned by collaboration between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the Port Qasim Authority, and Engro, noting that strong domestic capability is evident in daily operations. He said sustained investment was key to long-term growth.

Pakistan’s economy remains heavily reliant on maritime trade, with around 90 per cent of goods moving through sea routes. In this context, efficient terminal operations are essential for the uninterrupted flow of LNG, LPG, chemicals and industrial inputs.

EETL contributes around 15 per cent of Pakistan’s daily gas supply and has generated significant savings through efficient power generation, while EVTL handles nearly half of imported gas demand, ensuring energy flows from port to pipeline.

Syed Ammar Shah, CEO of Engro’s terminals, said the company sees itself as an enabler of national progress through safe and efficient operations.Beyond energy, EVTL also handles industrial chemicals used across textiles, construction and agriculture, forming a key link in Pakistan’s supply chain and contributing substantial cost savings for the economy.
