KARACHI: Passenger car sales by members of the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) rose sharply in April 2026, with total car sales reaching 17,387 units compared to 8,004 units in April 2025, a year-on-year increase of 117 per cent, according to data released on Tuesday.

For the first 10 months of FY26 (July 2025 to April 2026), cumulative car sales stood at 127,042 units against 83,401 units in the same period of FY25, a rise of 52 per cent.According to Myesha Sohail, an analyst at Topline Research, this rise was majorly driven by a rise in sales seen in Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) and Sazgar Engineering (SAZEW).

The impressive YoY growth was driven by new market entrants, new product launches, relatively lower inflation in previous months, and a surge in auto financing. To recall, auto financing reached a 42-month high in Mar 2026, up 34 per cent YoY and 3.0 per cent MoM.

In the 1,300cc and above segment, April 2026 sales reached 8,550 units compared to 5,175 units in April 2025, a 65 per cent increase. Toyota (Corolla, Yaris and Corolla Cross) led the segment with 3,451 units, followed by Honda Cars (Civic and City) at 2,432 units and Suzuki Swift at 2,205 units. Hyundai Elantra recorded sales of 428 units and Hyundai Sonata sold 34 units in April 2026.

In the 1,000cc category, total sales in April 2026 came in at 489 units, compared to 230 units in April 2025. Suzuki Cultus accounted for all reported sales in this segment, as Suzuki WagonR production has been discontinued, with only residual sales of 53 units recorded in the cumulative FY26 figures.

The below-1,000cc segment posted the sharpest monthly gains. Suzuki Alto sales climbed to 7,567 units in April 2026 from 2,276 units in April 2025, an increase of 232 per cent. Suzuki Every recorded sales of 751 units in the same month. Total below-1,000cc sales for April 2026 stood at 8,318 units against 2,599 units in April 2025.

Dewan Motors’ electric vehicle, Honri-Ve, recorded sales of 30 units in April 2026, bringing its cumulative FY26 tally to 293 units against 132 units in the same period of FY25.In the jeeps and pickups segment, total sales in April 2026 reached 4,628 units compared to 2,636 units in April 2025. Toyota (Fortuner and IMVs) led with 879 units, followed by Haval by Sazgar at 2,208 units and Honda BR-V and HR-V at 284 units.

Truck and bus sales in April 2026 totalled 824 units compared to 520 units in April 2025. Farm tractor sales for April 2026 stood at 2,824 units against 1,602 units in April 2025, with Massey Ferguson Millat accounting for 1,994 units and Fiat Al-Ghazi for 830 units.

Sales of motorcycles and three-wheelers reached 190,340 units in April 2026, up from 135,721 units in April 2025. Honda remained the dominant player with 163,048 units in cumulative FY26 sales, while Suzuki recorded 29,453 units over the same period.

“We expect positive momentum in auto sales to continue in 2026, supported by lower interest rates and new hybrid and plug-in hybrid models,” said Myesha Sohail. Pakistan’s auto market is showing “visible improvement”, with small cars, sedans and motorcycles all recording stronger sales, auto sector expert Mashood Ali Khan said.

He noted that Pak Suzuki Motor Company Alto sales had crossed 50,000 units, calling it the “common man’s” car due to its high localisation level. He added that Toyota and Honda had staged a comeback in the sedan segment, while Honda remained the leader in two-wheelers with 1.3 million units sold. Khan said the next five-year auto policy must promote localisation and “move beyond mere assembly and shift towards actual manufacturing”.
