LAHORE:The laboratory professionals are playing a pivotal role in saving lives through accurate and timely diagnosis, in the modern healthcare system.
These views were expressed by Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Principal Prof Farooq Afzal while addressing a ceremony organised by the Department of Pathology, PGMI/Lahore General Hospital, in connection with ‘Lab Week 2026.’
The event was attended by LGH MS Prof Dr Faryad Hussain, Prof of Pathology Dr Nazish Saqlain, Prof Dr Farhan Rasheed, Dr Abdul Aziz, and faculty members and health professionals. Prof Farooq Afzal highlighted that in modern medicine, a physician’s decision is incomplete without laboratory results.
He announced that comprehensive measures would be taken to upgrade the Pathology Department in accordance with international standards. LGH MS Dr Faryad Hussain said that the laboratory department is the backbone of the hospital’s performance. Such events not only boost staff morale but also highlight their professional capabilities and promote a spirit of teamwork. During the briefing, the Head of the Pathology Department informed the Principal that a staggering total of 2,380,647 laboratory tests were conducted during the year 2025. Out of these, 714,194 tests were performed in the Emergency Lab, providing immediate diagnostic support to ensure timely treatment for patients.
