KARACHI: The Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA), in collaboration with the Karachi Tax Bar Association and Lahore Tax Bar Association, held a Zoom meeting with officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) to discuss systemic and operational issues affecting taxpayers and tax practitioners.

According to a statement on Friday, the meeting focused on procedural concerns and technical challenges within Iris and digital invoicing systems. Participants highlighted several issues, including discrepancies in annexures and reconciliations, API and ERP integration failures, IRIS downtime, delays in invoice validation, CRM inefficiencies, anomalies in withholding statements, filer and non-filer inconsistencies, delays in processing applications, and concerns related to suspension and blacklisting. They also raised concerns over inadequate taxpayer protection in cases where non-compliance arises from technical or systemic limitations.

The meeting was attended by Chairperson of the PTBA Academy of Taxation Abdul Qadir Memon, PTBA President Sheikh Ahsan ul Haq, Lahore Tax Bar President Saqib Munir, Karachi Tax Bar President Mahmood Bikiya, as well as other office-bearers and members of the tax bar associations.

PTBA Treasurer Shiraz Khan presented the issues in detail during the three-hour session and offered practical and legally workable recommendations to improve the system.

Representatives of FBR and PRAL acknowledged the concerns raised by the tax bars and assured participants that the issues would be reviewed on a priority basis.
