Rawalpindi: Armed motorcyclists opened fire outside Dhamial Police Station, killing a young man who was in police custody in a murder case.
According to the details, police were returning Abdul Wahab, an accused in a recent murder case, after producing him before senior officers when armed assailants on motorcycles ambushed the convoy near the police station entrance.
As officers began moving the suspect from the vehicle toward the premises, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire. Police personnel took cover behind vehicles and inside the station to avoid the gunfire, but Abdul Wahab was killed on the spot in the attack.
The assailants managed to flee after the shooting. Senior police officials rushed to the scene shortly after being informed and cordoned off the area.
Police later stated that unidentified motorcyclists had targeted and killed a citizen on Gulshan-e-Iqbal Road over an old enmity. They confirmed that the deceased was also a nominated accused in a murder case registered at Dhamial Police Station a week earlier. The body was shifted to hospital for post-mortem, while investigations into the incident are underway.
