ISLAMABAD: Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasar on Monday took strict notice of the entry of unauthorised individuals, security lapses, and the deteriorating state of basic facilities at Parliament Lodges.
He summoned the relevant officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and security officers to Parliament House and received a detailed briefing. He directed CDA authorities and the SP Security to submit a comprehensive report within three days.
During the meeting, senators Waqar Mehdi, Masroor Ahsan, and Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto were also present. The deputy chairman Senate expressed serious concern over poor security arrangements at Parliament Lodges, stating that the entry of unauthorised persons was not only a violation of rules but also a serious security risk. He also expressed displeasure over ongoing renovation and repair work, as well as the malfunctioning of lifts, noting that despite repeated complaints by senators, lack of progress reflects clear administrative negligence.
Senator Nasar sought complete details of all submitted requests, including the number received and those acted upon. He also directed that full details of allotments at Parliament Lodges be presented transparently. In his capacity as chairman house committee, he sought complete details of the newly constructed 104-block project, including its initiation, completion timeline, cost, tendering process, and any revised expenditures.
He expressed regret that the project, approved for the Senate members, has faced prolonged delays. The Senate members reiterated their complaints during the meeting, stating that they had repeatedly informed the lodges’ administration about repair and maintenance issues, but no substantial action had been taken. The deputy chairman expressed strong displeasure and directed that all repair work be completed immediately and that complaints of parliamentarians be addressed promptly.
Furthermore, he expressed concern over poor sanitation conditions at the lodges, particularly the presence of rats, terming the situation highly troubling for residents. He also ordered an inquiry into a recent social media video, questioning how an unauthorised woman was allowed to enter and film within the lodges. He emphasised that Parliament Lodges house members of parliament and their families; therefore, no compromise on security and basic facilities will be tolerated.
Sharing his personal experience, he stated that he himself had been stuck in a lift multiple times, raising serious questions over administrative performance. During the meeting, DG Services, SP Security Lodges, Director Services Lodges, and other relevant officials briefed the participants.
The deputy chairman Senate directed all concerned institutions to submit a comprehensive report within three days and ensure immediate and effective resolution of all issues.
