SWABI: The repatriation process of Afghan refugees from Swabi district is progressing rapidly, with more than 34,000 people having returned to native country so far, officials said on Monday.

Swabi Deputy Commissioner Tariq Ullah told The News that a total of 34,758 Afghan refugees have been repatriated from camps established in the district.He said that 15,186 people returned from the Gandaf Camp, while 19,572 refugees were repatriated from the Barkai Camp.

The official added that initially 42,061 Afghan refugees were residing in Swabi district, but after the recent repatriation, only 7,303 of them remained in the camps.According to him, 82 percent of the overall repatriation process has been completed under the supervision of the government and district administration.
