NOWSHERA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial leader Safdar Hussain Yousafzai on Sunday announced full support for the long march scheduled for May 8 called by Ahmad Khan Niazi and said that participants would be warmly received in Nowshera.
Speaking at a press conference at the Nowshera Press Club alongside party activists, Yousafzai said that he and thousands of Imran Khan’s supporters would stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone who took to the streets for the former prime minister’s release.
He argued that PTI candidates were not elected for positions of power or ministries, but rather on the promise of securing Imran Khan’s release. However, he criticised the party’s current leadership, saying its role in pursuing this objective had been almost non-existent.
He questioned the authority of the party chairman and accused the chief minister of shifting responsibility for protests onto Mahmood Khan Achakzai. “Is Imran Khan the leader of Achakzai or Maulana Raja Nasir, or of PTI workers?” he asked, adding that only resistance could secure Khan’s release.
He said that if those in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were unable to act, they should admit their failure. Referring to Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, he said she had been repeatedly asking what party leadership were doing for Khan’s release, but no one was moving.
He said that PTI supporters had the right to hold rallies and protests across the country, including in Karachi and Islamabad, and said they would not be deterred by fear.
