ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s rising tennis sensation Muhammad Shoaib carved his name into the record books with a sensational victory in the singles final of the Flair Travel ITF Men’s Futures M-15 Championships 2026, held in memory of late Khawaja Iftikhar Ahmad at the PTF Tennis Complex.

In a gripping, high-quality final played before a charged home crowd, Shoaib overcame Russia’s Nikita Ianin in a three-set thriller, 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-2, displaying remarkable composure, endurance, and tactical brilliance under pressure.

The landmark triumph ends a two-decade-long wait for Pakistan, as Shoaib becomes the first local player since Aisamul Haq and Aqeel Khan to capture an ITF Futures singles title, a milestone moment for the country’s tennis revival.

Despite struggling with his first serve early on, Shoaib showcased exceptional resilience and court awareness. His baseline dominance, coupled with deft drop shots and pinpoint volleys, kept Ianin constantly on the back foot. The Russian relied heavily on his serve, particularly in the second set where he secured a crucial break to force a decider.

However, the final set belonged entirely to Shoaib.

Displaying superior fitness and mental strength, the Pakistani star thrived in the scorching conditions on Centre Court, outlasting his opponent with relentless intensity. Fresh and composed, Shoaib dictated play with authority, leaving Ianin with no room for a comeback as he sealed the title in emphatic fashion.

“This victory is a blessing from Almighty Allah. I am proud to win on home soil and dedicate this achievement to Pakistan,” Shoaib said after the match. “It was a tough final, and Insha’Allah I will carry this momentum into the next tournament.”

He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), extending special thanks to President PTF Aisamul Haq and Secretary General Col Ziauddin Tufail.

The PTF President hailed Shoaib’s achievement as a defining moment for the sport in the country.

“I am extremely proud that after such a long gap, a Pakistani has once again lifted an ITF Futures singles title on home soil,” said Qureshi. “This reflects our ongoing efforts in player development and the importance of hosting international events in Pakistan, which are now yielding tangible results.”

He added that the tournament held special emotional significance as it honoured the memory of his late grandfather, Khawaja Iftikhar Ahmad.

Adding further pride to the occasion, Pakistani players also clinched the doubles title, making it a memorable sweep for the hosts and underlining the resurgence of tennis in the country.
