ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday witnessed the signing of one Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) and two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Pakistani and Chinese organisations in Sanya, Hainan, China, covering construction machinery, animal health and medical technology.
The engagements aim to advance practical cooperation in key sectors. An MoU was signed between Al Hassan Trade Establishment, Sany International Development and Hainan Jiaolong International Technology for cooperation in high-end equipment, manufacturing and construction machinery. The trilateral collaboration focuses on supporting work related to the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, strengthening cooperation in the supply of complete construction machinery and equipment, developing a professional talent-training system and providing after-sales operation and maintenance services. The parties will also explore investment opportunities to establish factories in Pakistan and advance localised production of construction machinery. The MoU was signed by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Vice President of Sany Group Li Qin, and Chairman of Hainan Jiaolong International Trade Company Hao Jiaolong.
A Joint Venture Agreement was concluded between the Livestock & Fisheries Department Government of Sindh and Luoyang Modern Biology Group for the distribution and supply of animal vaccines in Pakistan, including foot-and-mouth disease vaccines. The agreement also provides for technology exchange and future cooperation on introducing animal tracking and traceability systems in Pakistan. The agreement was signed by Senior Provincial Minister Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon and Chairman Wang Shanpu.
Another MoU was signed between Dr Ziauddin Hospital and Shenzhen Weibang Technology to develop a cooperation model based on “product + service + solution” in medical technology. The understanding focuses on the innovative application of medical intelligent robots in clinical medicine to support Pakistan’s healthcare system. The MoU was signed by Dr Anoop Kumar Dawani and Deputy General Manager Deng Haitao.
A short documentary marking 75 years of friendship between Pakistan and China was also screened. Ali Hassan Brohi; Qasim Naveed Qamar; the chief secretary Sindh; and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi were present.
Meanwhile, the president held a telephone conversation with Ali Falih Khadim Al-Zaidi, prime minister-designate of Iraq, and congratulated him on his elevation to the position. He conveyed his best wishes for the formation of a stable government, noting that the appointment reflects confidence in his leadership at an important moment for Iraq. He emphasised that Pakistan and Iraq enjoy relations grounded in shared values and mutual respect, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties.
He highlighted the potential to expand economic engagement in trade, investment, energy cooperation, infrastructure, agriculture and renewable energy, and stressed the importance of enhanced academic collaboration and people-to-people exchanges. The prime minister-designate thanked the president for his warm wishes and invited him to visit Iraq at a mutually convenient time.
President Asif Ali Zardari returned on Friday after completing a five-day official visit to China, during which both sides made significant progress in strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The president was seen off at Sanya Airport by Wang Qiyang, Party Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Hainan.
