LAHORE: Chinese Consul General in Lahore, Mr Sun Yan, has praised Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach in a volatile region and underscored the growing scope of Pakistan-China cooperation during a visit to the Jang Group offices, where he accompanied by his team interacted with senior editors and journalists from Jang, The News and Geo TV.

The Chinese envoy described Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States as “commendable,” noting that Islamabad was playing a constructive role in promoting peace and stability amid tensions also involving Israel. He said such diplomatic engagement reflected Pakistan’s responsible role in regional affairs.

Referring to a recently discussed five point initiative jointly promoted by Pakistan and China, the consul general said the framework called for ceasefire, dialogue, protection of civilians and critical infrastructure, safeguarding key maritime routes, and adherence to principles of the United Nations Charter, terming it a reflection of the two countries’ shared commitment to peace and stability.

Mr Sun Yan also appreciated the initiatives of Maryam Nawaz Sharif, particularly efforts to promote green energy and tackle smog, describing them as important steps towards sustainable development in Punjab.

During the interaction, discussions also focused on emerging technologies, with particular emphasis on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping future economies, governance and the media landscape. The need for cooperation in innovation, research and knowledge sharing was highlighted as a key area for future engagement.

Highlighting the broader trajectory of bilateral ties, the envoy noted that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor had entered a new phase of high quality development, expanding cooperation beyond infrastructure into industry, agriculture, mining, information technology and people-centric sectors. He said CPEC phase-II would open new avenues for trade, investment and industrial growth, while enhancing regional connectivity through projects such as Gwadar Port and key transport corridors.

Emphasising the importance of human capital, Mr Sun noted that professionals equipped with Chinese language skills and cultural understanding would play a crucial role in unlocking the full potential of bilateral economic cooperation and business partnerships. He added that academic collaboration, research linkages and talent development would remain central to the next phase of engagement.

The consul general described the current year as a historic milestone marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, reaffirming that the two countries remained “all-weather strategic cooperative partners” with deep rooted mutual trust and high level coordination. He reiterated his commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties, including facilitating business communities, enhancing consular cooperation, and promoting safer and easier cross-border movement for citizens and investors.

The interaction also highlighted the importance of expanding people-to-people contacts, cultural exchanges and media linkages, with the envoy expressing his resolve to pass on the enduring “iron brotherhood” between Pakistan and China to future generations while building a closer community with a shared future.
