PESHAWAR: Speakers at a workshop on Thursday stressed the need for equipping youth with green skills to tackle climate challenges and promote sustainable economic growth.
Social Action Bureau for Assistance in Welfare and Organizational Networking (SABAWON) organized the kick-off workshop of the “Green Skills - Climate Adapted TVET and Strengthening Socio-Economic Resilience of Youth for a Sustainable Future in Pakistan”.
The project is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and technically assisted by Welthungerhilfe (WHH).It will be implemented in Peshawar Division to promote climate-resilient skills and sustainable livelihood opportunities for youth.
The workshop was attended by Chief Executive SABAWON Muhammad Tariq, KP TEVTA deputy director academics and operations, president of Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Quratul Ain, vice-president of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, provincial coordinator for GIZ, principals and instructors of technical training institutes, representatives of civil society organizations, Akhuwat, SMEDA, and potential employers.
The organisers said the objective of the workshop was to formally introduce the Green Skills Project to key stakeholders and highlight the importance of climate-adapted technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in enhancing youth employability and resilience.
The participants were briefed on the project’s objectives, key components, target areas, and expected outcomes. Addressing the participants, SABAWON chief executive emphasized the need to equip youth with green skills to tackle climate challenges and promote sustainable economic growth.
Women’s Chamber chief highlighted the importance of women’s participation and private sector engagement in advancing green initiatives.The workshop provided a platform to strengthen coordination among government departments, employers, financial institutions, and civil society organizations.
Participants shared feedback and made recommendations for the effective implementation of the project.
The Green Skills initiative aims to contribute towards a sustainable future by integrating climate-responsive skills into the TVET sector and building the socio-economic resilience of youth in the region.
