ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s wrestling pride shone brightly on the sandy arena of Sanya, as the country’s premier grappler Mohammad Inam and rising star Asadullah powered their way into the gold medal bouts of their respective categories at the 6th Asian Beach Games in China.

Displaying remarkable strength, technique, and composure, Asadullah delivered a commanding performance in the 80kg category, outclassing his Chinese opponent 3-0 in the semi-final. His journey to the final was nothing short of dominant, having secured victories in four earlier bouts against quality opposition, underlining his growing stature on the continental stage.

Seasoned campaigner Inam, meanwhile, once again proved why he remains Pakistan’s most decorated wrestler. In a tense and fiercely fought semi-final, he edged past Mongolia’s Ganbold with a narrow 1-0 victory. The bout was a classic display of tactical brilliance and defensive mastery, with Inam relying on his vast international exposure and experience to outmaneuver his opponent at crucial moments.

Speaking after the victories, Inam expressed confidence in the team’s performance and optimism for the finals. “All wrestlers have performed outstandingly at the Games. We are returning home with medals, Inshallah. I am grateful to the Pakistan Olympic Association and the Government of Pakistan for their continued support. Both Asadullah and I are in the gold medal matches, while Abdullah will compete for bronze. I request the nation to keep us in their prayers,” he said.

Inam further highlighted the high level of competition, revealing that Pakistan’s wrestlers had overcome some of the best in Asia, including top Indian contenders. Both Inam and Asadullah registered emphatic wins against their Indian rivals during their respective campaigns, showcasing Pakistan’s dominance in beach wrestling.

Inam began his campaign by defeating India’s Aryan in the quarter-finals before overcoming Thailand’s Sharipov 2-0 to secure a semi-final berth. Asadullah, on the other hand, stunned highly ranked Indian wrestler Sachin in the 80kg division en-route to the last four, further cementing his reputation as a formidable force.

In the 70kg category, Pakistan’s Abdullah also impressed with a strong run, defeating his Thai opponent to reach the semi-finals. However, he fell short against an Indian wrestler in the penultimate stage and will now compete for the bronze medal.

With two wrestlers eyeing gold and another in contention for bronze, Pakistan’s wrestling contingent has already ensured a memorable outing at the Games, raising hopes of a golden finish and adding yet another proud chapter to the nation’s sporting achievements.
