QUETTA: The Balochistan government has taken a final decision to demolish the existing Provincial Assembly building and construct a new one after receiving a report from the Communication and Works (C&W) Department stating that the current structure cannot be expanded. The tender for the demolition of the building will be opened on May 7.

According to officials of the C&W Department, a committee comprising technical experts submitted a report declaring that the present Balochistan Assembly building is not expandable. Following consultations between Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti, Speaker of the Provincial Assembly Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, and the Opposition Leader, a final decision was made to demolish the current building and construct a new one.

The C&W Department has already invited tenders for the demolition work, which will be opened on May 7. The tender notice has also been published in newspapers.

An initial estimate of Rs5 billion has been set for the construction of the new Provincial Assembly building, and the amount has been provided by the federal government. The new building is expected to be completed within one year. During the construction period, sessions of the Provincial Assembly will be held in the hall of the Committee Building.
