Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Amir Khattak has directed authorities to construct water tanks along the Ring Road, which will serve both the project’s needs and public use, including the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA).
Khattak also revealed that a proposal is under consideration to establish a dedicated policing system for the Ring Road, including a separate traffic police force to ensure smooth traffic flow. He shared these views during a meeting to review progress on the Rawalpindi Ring Road project.
The commissioner noted that delays in the project are being caused by disruptions in the supply of construction materials and rising water levels. He stressed the need for a coordinated strategy to overcome these challenges without further delay.
The meeting also reviewed pending payments related to land acquisition. The commissioner directed that letters be sent to the concerned deputy commissioners to ensure immediate clearance of dues, preventing any further obstacles.
He reiterated that the 38-kilometre Ring Road project will prove a game-changer in addressing traffic issues in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, adding that 85 percent of the work has already been completed. During the briefing, officials informed that 99 percent of work on the Railway Bridge and the Maira Mohra Interchange has been completed, while the Nala Bridge is 97 percent complete.
