Islamabad:The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) signed a contract with a solar energy organisation for the installation and commissioning of a 3.5 MW Solar PV System at the NUST H-12 Campus.

The contract was signed by Dr. Adeel Waqas, Principal US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCASE), NUST, and Brig. (r) Imran Masood Kashfi, Company Secretary. Awarded through a transparent and competitive bidding process, the project marks a significant milestone in NUST's commitment to sustainability and its transition towards cleaner and more reliable energy sources.

Besides reducing dependence on conventional energy sources, the project will contribute towards lowering the university's carbon footprint and promoting environmentally responsible campus operations.

The project also reflects NUST's commitment to leveraging its own institutional expertise, with NUST playing a leading role in planning and steering this strategic initiative. Speaking at the occasion, Rector, Dr. Muhammad Zahid Latif highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability into institutional planning and development.

He remarked that the project reflects National University of Sciences commitment to adopting practical solutions that address contemporary energy challenges, and “it is just a matter of time that we would be fully solarised.”

He stressed that universities have a responsibility to not only generate knowledge but also lead by example in advancing sustainable practices and responsible resource utilisation. He said, “As with other SDGs, we are working on other facets of sustainability, and NUST shall play a leading role not only in Pakistan but also internationally.”

By investing in renewable and clean energy infrastructure, National University of Sciences continues to demonstrate its commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, innovation-driven development and the adoption of solutions that contribute to Pakistan's evolving energy landscape.
