Pakistan to face China in U18 Asia Cup 2026 opener on May 30

LAHORE: Pakistan will face China in its opening match as the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) has released the official schedule for the Under-18 Asia Cup 2026, which will take place in the Japanese city of Kakamegahara from May 29 to June 6.

The prestigious youth tournament will feature separate competitions for men and women, bringing together the best emerging hockey talent from across Asia.

Nine teams will contest the men’s event, divided into two pools: Pool A has India,

Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan while Pool B comprises Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, China

The Green Shirts (Pakistan U-18) will begin their campaign on May 30 against China at 11:00 AM. Their second fixture is scheduled for May 31 against Malaysia at 3:00 PM, followed by a crucial clash against Bangladesh on June 3 at 3:00 PM.

The semi-finals and classification matches will be played on June 5, while the final and third-place playoff are set for June 6, concluding the week-long tournament.

In preparation for the event, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) organized nationwide trials, drawing talent from across the country. Promising players emerged from the recently held Youth U-18 National Hockey Championship, ensuring a competitive squad for the continental challenge.

The Under-18 Asia Cup serves as a vital platform for young athletes to gain international exposure and experience high-level competition.

For Pakistan, the tournament represents both a test of its youth development programs and an opportunity to showcase emerging talent on the Asian stage.
