ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration officials have arrested an Afghan national at the Lahore airport for attempting to travel abroad on forged documents, as authorities intensify their crackdown on human smuggling and visa fraud.

The suspect, identified as Shah Wazir Jalil, was intercepted while trying to board flight CZ-6038 to China during enhanced screening measures aimed at curbing illegal migration. Officials said his passport contained counterfeit arrival and departure stamps allegedly issued at the Torkham border, which were detected during routine verification.

Following his arrest, Jalil was handed over to the FIA’s Anti-Human Smuggling Circle in Lahore for further investigation.

Authorities are probing possible links to facilitators or organised networks involved in document forgery.

In separate operations, the FIA also arrested two suspects in Punjab over alleged involvement in migrant smuggling and visa fraud.

According to an FIA spokesperson, Hafiz Muhammad Sajjad and Amir Khalil were apprehended during targeted raids in Lahore and Pakpattan.

Investigators said Sajjad allegedly defrauded a citizen of Rs700,000 on the promise of arranging a Dubai work visa.

In another case, Khalil was found running an illegal travel agency under the name “Truth Travels,” from where officials recovered eight Pakistani passports and other incriminating documents. Both suspects are in custody and further investigations are underway to determine the scope of their activities and identify additional accomplices.
