Our digital landscape is struggling with basic connectivity. The frequent internet slowdowns and disruptions are creating a massive hurdle for the ‘Digital Pakistan’ vision. The impact of this issue is devastating. As a computer science student, I see first-hand how my peers are unable to access learning tools or complete technical projects. More importantly, Pakistan’s freelance community, the backbone of our IT exports, is losing international clients due to un-reliable communication. When a freelancer cannot deliver work on time, it is not just a personal loss but a loss of foreign exchange for the country.
To fix this issue, the authorities must prioritise the stability of our digital infrastructure. While cyber security is important, it should not come at the cost of economic and educational progress. We need a transparent policy on internet management and an immediate upgrade to our fibre-optic networks to ensure that our young people can compete globally.
