Traders, lawyers clear way for underpasses in Gujar Khan

Rawalpindi:The construction of two underpasses in Gujar Khan has gained momentum as traders and the layers community extended support to remove encroachments hindering the project.

Assistant Commissioner Khizar Zahoor said the administration held negotiations with stakeholders, resulting in the voluntary removal of over 300 stalls (shops) that had been in place for nearly two decades along key roads.

He said the lawyers’ community also demonstrated cooperation by dismantling around 30 chambers falling in the project’s alignment without resistance, terming it a positive development.

The official appreciated the role of the traders’ bodies and khoka (stall) union, adding that completion of the underpasses would help resolve long-standing traffic issues and improve urban infrastructure. President of the stalls union, Mirza Taimur said the decision to remove the stalls was taken in the larger public interest and cooperation with the administration would continue. Anjuman-e-Tajran President Raja Jawad also backed the initiative, saying the business community stood with the administration for the city’s development.
