Rawalpindi:A father and his son were shot dead after unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants opened fire on their vehicle in the Chakri area along Sada Road on Sunday, police said.
According to police, the victims were returning home in their car when armed men on motorcycles intercepted the vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire. Both occupants sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Police sources described the incident as a suspected targeted killing, saying the attackers appeared to have specifically targeted the victims before fleeing the area. The motive behind the attack could not immediately be established.
Following the shooting, police and forensic teams reached the scene, collected evidence and recorded initial statements from witnesses. The bodies were shifted for medico-legal formalities while investigators launched a probe to identify the assailants and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Police said efforts were underway to trace the suspects and establish the motive behind the killings. The incident has once again raised concerns over public safety and the effectiveness of policing in the area.
Despite the brazen nature of the attack and the fact that the gunmen escaped after carrying out the killings in broad daylight, police have so far neither identified nor arrested any suspects. The lack of immediate breakthroughs in the investigation is likely to draw criticism of the area's law enforcement response and their ability to prevent and swiftly solve such violent crimes.
