KARACHI: Sweden has committed $4.17 million in flexible funding to support Unicef’s humanitarian operations in Pakistan, aimed at strengthening emergency response efforts for children affected by climate shocks and other crises.

The contribution, provided through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), forms part of UNICEF’s 2026 Humanitarian Action for Children appeal, the agency said in a statement. The funding is designed to allow rapid deployment of assistance in areas facing overlapping risks, including displacement and malnutrition.

“Flexible funding is critical in a context like Pakistan,” said Pernille Ironside, Unicef representative in Pakistan, citing the need to respond quickly to evolving emergencies.Sweden’s support previously enabled Unicef to respond to flood-related emergencies in 2025, reaching more than 400,000 people across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh with services spanning nutrition, healthcare, education and water and sanitation. Around 25,000 children and caregivers also received mental health and psychosocial support, according to the agency.

Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan Alexandra Berg von Linde said the funding reflects the country’s continued support for humanitarian efforts and resilience-building initiatives.
