The Sindh government, under its environment-friendly and public welfare vision, on Wednesday inaugurated a floating jetty and a community centre in Lath Basti, Malir, through the Sindh Coastal Development Authority.

Officials said the chief guest at the ceremony was Adviser to the Chief Minister on Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development, Dost Muhammad Rahimoon.

Addressing the gathering, Rahimoon said the Sindh government was taking practical steps to develop coastal areas, improve the welfare of fishermen, and provide basic facilities. He described the establishment of the floating jetty and community centre in Lath Basti as an important milestone.

The jetty, he noted, had the capacity to bear up to 32 tonnes of weight. He added that the facility would significantly benefit local fishermen by easing transportation, ensuring safe docking of boats, improving livelihood opportunities, and supporting social activities.

He further said that under the leadership of the Sindh chief minister, coastal areas were being developed along modern lines and that efforts to serve the public would continue. Secretary Environment Zubair Ahmed Channa said the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development was implementing comprehensive planning to ensure sustainable development, environmental protection, and the welfare of coastal communities.

He termed the Lath Basti project not only a development initiative but also a step towards community empowerment and improved living standards. He added that the authority remained committed to providing modern facilities, improving infrastructure, and serving fishing communities across Sindh’s coastal belt.

Channa said the floating jetty would facilitate boat movement, while the community centre would serve as a hub for social, educational, and public activities. During the event, guests inspected the project and described it as a people-friendly initiative of the Sindh government. Local fishermen and residents expressed satisfaction over the inauguration, saying it would bring noticeable improvements in their livelihoods, access to facilities, and overall regional development.
