US, Sindh officials discuss security cooperation, better law enforcement

KARACHI: An American delegation held a virtual meeting with officials of the Sindh Home Department and Sindh Police to discuss ongoing cooperation aimed at strengthening law enforcement capacity, public safety, and security initiatives across the province.

Officials said the meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho, Special Secretary Home Saeed Shaikh, DIG Faizullah Korejo, Coordinator to the Home Minister Bilal Shaikh, and other senior officials of the Home Department and Sindh Police. Representatives of the United States delegation and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) also participated.

During the meeting, participants appreciated the longstanding partnership between the Sindh government, Sindh Police, and the US government in promoting public safety and strengthening law enforcement institutions.

Discussions focused on enhancing public safety, reinforcing the rule of law, and improving the operational capabilities of law enforcement agencies, particularly in vulnerable and high-risk areas.

The meeting also reviewed security challenges in the Kutcha region and emphasized the need for greater mobility, operational readiness, and modern policing resources to effectively combat organized criminal networks and improve law enforcement effectiveness.

Participants noted that international assistance initiatives are aimed not only at providing equipment and resources but also at strengthening institutions, building professional capacity, and promoting sustainable policing practices.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Muhammad Iqbal Memon reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, transparency, and public service. He also underscored the importance of international cooperation and strategic partnerships in addressing evolving security challenges.

The participants expressed confidence that continued collaboration between Sindh Police, the Home Department, and international partners would contribute to safer communities, enhanced public trust, and improved security outcomes across the province.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to all stakeholders and a renewed commitment to further strengthening cooperation in the interest of public safety and regional stability.
