ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) on Monday announced that a delegation of the PPP central leaders will visit Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday (today) in connection with the upcoming elections.

The delegation includes the PPPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Humayun Khan, Nadeem Afzal Chan, and Qamar Zaman Kaira. The election board will interview the prospective candidates as part of the final approval process.

Earlier, two meetings of the election board were held in Islamabad under the chairpersonship of Faryal Talpur. Bukhari said the party had delivered results in Gilgit-Baltistan rather than mere promises.

He noted that former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had granted the people of the region the right to vote and political representation, while the PPP later provided administrative status to Gilgit-Baltistan and initiated major public welfare and development projects.

He further stated that party workers from the region played a historic role in the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy, and that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had given a welcome reception to former prime minister Benazir Bhutto during her visits.
