LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed her resolve to rehabilitate barren lands across the province by converting them into economic zones under the Blue Economy Programme
She said significant progress has been achieved in developing infrastructure for shrimp farming projects in Sargodha Estate, Ali Wala and Shah Garh. She appreciated the team for expediting work on the projects.
The chief minister said promotion of aquaculture and shrimp farming of international standards would help rehabilitate barren lands, create employment opportunities and boost exports.
The chief minister in her message on the Chinese Language Day, has said the Chinese language has gained significant importance on the global stage. The chief minister remarked that learning Chinese can further strengthen the friendship between Pakistan and China. She highlighted that Punjab Police personnel assigned to the security of Chinese nationals are being taught the Chinese.
The chief minister has paid tribute to the martyrdom of Balochistan Police Lady Constable Malik Naz Baloch who embraced martyrdom during an operation against terrorists in Khuzdar. Maryam said that in the war against terrorism, the brave daughter of Balochistan set an example of bravery. Shaheed Malik Naz proved that when a daughter of the nation stands firm, no force can defeat her. She prayed for patience for the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, former prime minister and PMLN President, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of party’s parliamentary board on Gilgit-Baltistan at Punjab House here on Monday. The party sources said that the meeting held detailed discussion for selection of suitable candidates for the Gilgit-Baltistan polls. The parliamentary board has received 150 applications for 24 seats in the upcoming GB elections on June 7.
However, according to sources, the PMLN president maintained that best possible candidates would be fielded in the GB polls. The PMLN sources said that PMLN President Nawaz Sharif himself will lead the election campaign for the GB elections. The party sources said that four committees comprising members from the parliamentary board were constituted. They will submit their reports to the party president in one week time regarding names of suitable candidates to be fielded in GB polls. It was decided that development projects executed by the PML-N Government in GB would also be highlighted during the elections campaign. A comprehensive development programme for the future will also be chalked out.
