Resolution passed unanimously KP Assembly backs US-Iran talks

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution supporting ongoing Iran-US talks in Islamabad, facilitated by the Pakistan government.

The resolution was moved by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sher Ali.It also lauded PTI founder Imran Khan for his efforts toward regional peace during his tenure in power.

Later, according to a notification issued by the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will convene a special session at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar on Wednesday at 3:00 pm. The general public will be allowed to witness the proceedings and observe the performance of their elected representatives.

Earlier, elected representatives from Bajaur district staged a protest against operations in parts of Bajaur. They demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged search of houses in Samsai village and the reported death of an infant during the operation.

Soon after the recitation from the Holy Quran and the national anthem, MPAs from Bajaur gathered in front of the speaker’s dais, demanding that the routine agenda be suspended so they could speak about the ongoing operations.

Panel of Chairmen Mohammad Idrees, who was presiding over the session, suspended the Question Hour and allowed lawmakers to speak on the law and order situation in Bajaur.Ruling party MPA Hameed-ur-Rehman told the house that security forces had begun house-to-house searches in Samsai village last Saturday. He said local residents protested against the operation and demanded a judicial inquiry into the infant’s death.

He added that operations launched in parts of Bajaur in June last year had displaced hundreds of families, yet the areas had not been cleared of militants.Awami National Party (ANP) MPA Nisar Mohammad Baz claimed that an infant was killed in his mother’s lap and accused security forces of violating people’s privacy during the search operation. He also demanded a judicial inquiry.

The ANP lawmaker further alleged that 38 civilians had been killed and 33 others injured in military operations since July 2025, while hundreds had been displaced. He said around 800 families were still awaiting relief and compensation.

PTI MPA Anwar Zeb said that local elders, jirga members, and political parties had fully supported efforts to eliminate militancy, but the situation remained unsafe.He added that his own house had been targeted five months ago, with no action taken against those responsible.

Other lawmakers, including PTI MPA Mohammad Israr and Provincial Minister Dr Amjad Ali, also expressed concern over the security situation, stating that military operations had failed to eliminate militancy in the area.

Presiding officer Mohammad Idrees said the issue should be taken up by the assembly’s security committee, headed by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, for further review.Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Vagrancy Amendment Bill 2026 was introduced in the assembly.
